This morning, in a press release from Ford, we learned the exciting news that the 2016 Ford F-150 SuperCab and CrewCab both earned Top Safety+ Plus designations from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. This makes F-150 the only full-size pickup truck to earn the IIHS's highest safety rating.

Through the application of high-strength and lightweight materials, Ford engineers were able to deliver a truck that was up to 700 pounds lighter. This increase fuel-economy, payload, and towing ratings to class-leading levels, while maintaining integrity in all five IIHS crash assessments, including the notoriously challenging small overlap test.

“From the moment our team set out to design and build the new F-150, we knew it had to be best-in-class,” said Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, Global Product Development, and chief technical officer. “This Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick is another example of Ford’s commitment to building the toughest, smartest, most capable and safest F-150 ever.”
